Unit 5 Assessment 1

The Philippine Strategy for Sustainable Development aims to promote economic growth while protecting the biological diversity and resources of the nation, as well as the essential ecosystem services and overall environmental quality. It uses several different implementation methodologies as its foundation. The goal of this is to resolve and reconcile the various, and occasionally competing, environmental, demographic, economic, and resource usage challenges brought on by the nation's development initiatives. The strategies include:

1) incorporating environmental concerns into decision-making;

2) pricing natural resources appropriately; 3) reforming property rights;

4) establishing an integrated protected areas system;

 5) restoring degraded ecosystems;

6) strengthening residuals management in industry (pollution control);

7) incorporating population concerns and social welfare in development planning; and

8) encouraging growth.
